n Friday, October 27 over 80 guests gathered in Icon Modern’s new showroom for our 11th annual Harambee event. The theme of the evening was “Imagine a World." Through interactive displays and powerful conversation, we imagined a world where people are able to meet their needs today, tomorrow, and for every generation to come. Together, we raised $46,734 toward the Orinie Water Project which will bring water to 2,700 people living in Orinie Village. The water project will also serve Orinie Dispensary which serves a population of 30,500. Once Orinie Dispensary has water it will be elevated to a health center and be equipped with staff and services to better serve the community. Most notably, the health center will begin providing maternal healthcare, a service some currently travel 42 miles by donkey to access.

CEO Kait TenHarmsel shared about the mission and vision of The Humanity Share and encouraged the room to look beyond the need of water, to recognize our shared humanity, and to give from a place of hope.

“What I have learned over the years is that at our core, people want three things. They want to belong, to be heard, and to be valued. That is the type of community we strive to build here.”

Friday’s event was a representation of the community we strive to build. Thank you to everyone who gathered in our space, gave toward our Harambee campaign, and helped bring Orinie Village one step closer to a safe, reliable water source.

Thank you to our Chicago based corporate partners Icon Modern, Spark Chicago and Ziken as well as our event contributors City Winery, Trader Joe's, Emporium Arcade Bar, aba, Revolution Brewery, Jeni's, and Ramen-San.

Thank you to our incredible team of volunteers and ambassadors who spent the last 10 months working to make the event a success! We could not do what we do without you!
