Harambee is Swahili for ‘all pull together.’ In Kenya, communities harambee regularly, pulling together limited resources to help their neighbors in times of need. Harambee Chicago is The Humanity Share’s largest fundraising event, bringing together global partners to fund programs that tackle the systemic issues of chronic poverty.

Food / Drinks: Full bar and heavy hors d'oeuvres
Attire: Cocktail - We like to describe our event as a "Dress up, let your hair down" kind of night.
Activities: Guests will enjoy music, raffles, interactive displays, virtual reality, a Water Walk and much more.
Harambee is such a unique and uplifting experience! It's interactive, engaging, and I feel so inspired by the stories of perseverance, hope and growth. I love that guests can contribute to lasting change and have a fun doing it! - Tina, Chicago, IL

Our fundraising goal of $85,000 will fund three programs in our partner communities of Kajiado, Kenya and Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. All three programs contribute to a larger mission of developing sustainable life change through access to basic needs, a quality education and a sustainable income.

BASIC NEEDS: Clean water for the Kajiado Township community
Project Cost: $40,000

The project’s goal is to improve hygiene & sanitation outcomes among children and women through increased access to safe water. This borehole will target all households in Kajiado township and adjacent informal settlements of the majengo area through the care givers of U5 children (children under the age of 5), providing approximately 6,000 people with clean and safe drinking water.

EDUCATION: Sponsorship for Secondary School Girls & University Scholarship Program
Project Cost: $20,000

In many communities, girls' education is seen as a waste of resources despite research showing that educating a girl exponentially improves family health and income. Because girls are at the highest risk of being forced into cultural practices such as child marriage and female genital mutilation at puberty, our Kenya program supports girls entering secondary school and University. Investing in sponsorship & the scholarship program equips young women with the confidence, expertise and support to shift cultural norms and build a brighter future for every future generation.

SUSTAINABILITY: iPour Life Partnership
Project Cost: $15,000

We are excited to partner with I Pour Life to provide life coaching and mentorship for parents and families of our sponsored students in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Their LifeStrengths program is centered around holistic advancement through personal achievement and accountability within three focus areas: Life Lessons, Life Skills, and Social Capital. Investing in mentorship provides families with hope for a better future.
